If you want to stand out of the crowd you can’t afford to make these blogging mistakes.
1 Where is the time?
This was my #1 problem I faced when I began my blog. I didn’t have enough time due to uni commitments and work (… and Netflix?). Unfortunately time is a novelty for most, but if you are passionate about writing, you need to be diligent with your time. I found time by sacrificing Netflix to work on my blog. This gave me an extra 30 minutes – 1 hour per day.
I had ample time to watch Riverdale… but somehow did not have enough time to blog.
Goes hand-in-hand with time. To generate your loyal following you need to feed your readers with valuable content consistently. WordPress is fantastic as it allows you to schedule posts in advance so you do not have to worry about posting last minute. I like to schedule my posts two weeks in advance with at least 2 per week (3 is preferable).
2 Deliver valuable and informative content
Quality wins over quantity every day. This is a no brainer. Although it is important to write consistently, ensure that you are delivering content that will keep your readers coming back for more.
3 Straight to the point
This is very important. Keep your writing succinct and straight to the point. It only takes one click for your reader to move on from your post. Keep them engaged with content that is clear and doesn’t waffle on.
4 Use action and emotive words.
One way that you can effectively engage your readers is with action or emotive words. It makes your writing 110 times more interesting.
5 Engaging Headlines
Your headlines are the most important element you can’t afford to compromise..
Your headline will determine whether the reader clicks on your post or continues scrolling. You need to catch their eye and draw them in.
6 Spelling Punctuation and grammatical errors
Your blog is the face of your business.
Nothin’ speeks more unprofessional than poor righting skills… Plus, it is just plan annoying reading text with spelling mistakes. Read over your content a couple of times before publishing, maybe get a friend to read over it to catch anything you may have missed.
7 Setting up your email
This could be your biggest mistake. This will stop you from developing your loyal following. How will you keep your readers coming back for more without an online subscription. Having an email set up will enable you to personally interact with customers.
9 Link your posts
Take an extra two minutes to link relevant posts to the most recent. This is an easy way to keep your readers on your blog for that moment longer.
